On August 6-9, 2009, the Philippines will host the 1st Asia-Pacific Academy of Implant Dentistry (APAID) Congress at Hotel Sofitel Philippine Plaza Manila, CCP Complex, Roxas Boulevard in Pasay City, Manila, Philippines. This four-day congress starts on August 6 with a golf tournament followed by pre-congress courses on August 7. The main conference is from August 8-9. A banquet and a cultural night will be held on August 8. A project of APAID Philippines, hosted by the Philippine College of Oral Implantologists (PCOI) and co-sponsored by 7 Philippine dental schools, this major event brings together world-renowned international experts in the field of oral implantology who will share their valuable insights, observations and knowledge in line with the theme, "New Challenges in Oral Implantology." Todate, the list of foreign speakers is more than 30 and expected registered foreign delegates will reach 250 or more! APAID was established on July 25, 2008. Its objectives are to improve and promote related education, research and training in oral implantlogy; to augment international academic exchanges in implant dentistry; and to upgrade the profession of implant dentistry through worldwide academic exchanges. It now has 10 member countries and it continues to expand. The APAID firmly believes that without the support of higher institutions of learning, the continued importance of education and research cannot be significantly conveyed to tour colleagues in the profession.
